Call for Papers – UbuntuNet Connect 2015 Conference – Maputo, Mozambique / November 19-20, 2015

The UbuntuNet Alliance for Research and Education Networking is happy to announce its 8th Annual Conference whose topic will be: “Beyond Connectivity: The Road to NREN Maturity”. The conference will take place on 19-20 November 2015 in Maputo (main venue will be communicated soon), Mozambique and will be hosted by MoRENet, the NREN of Mozambique.

Over the last three years the AfricaConnect project vastly extended UbuntuNet’s regional network, establishing new points of presence in Dar es Salaam, Kampala, Kigali, Lusaka, Maputo, Moanda, Mtunzini, Cape Town and Nairobi and interconnecting them with each other and with UbuntuNet’s other points of presence in Amsterdam and London. The AfricaConnect2 Project, which is now underway, will further extend UbuntuNet’s regional network and will also deploy the first cross-border circuits of the WACREN and ASREN regional research and education networks.

Many NRENs of the region have gained good traction and momentum as regards the provision of connectivity.  Although on-going development of the connectivity infrastructure is necessary,UbuntuNet Alliance for Research and Education Networking will give special attention and more focus on how the Region’s NRENs and their institutions could look beyond connectivity and what value-added services – services that depend upon the connectivity infrastructure but add applications value – should be made available to enable full participation in major collaborative research and education programs.

Scientists, researchers and educators are invited to submit abstracts of proposed unpublished work that, if accepted, will lead to papers publishable in the proceedings. Prospective authors are encouraged to submit any contribution that is interesting and relevant to research and education networking, but are preferably advised to address the following topics of interest:

  • Applications that use NRENs’ value-added services through;
  • Technical issues in the provision of value-added services;
  • Business models for the provision of value-added services;
  • Connectivity to support advanced e-infrastructures and services.

Application deadline: 15 August 2015. For more information about UbuntuNet-Connect 2015 (application process, programme, registrations, etc) please visit here.

As a complementary information, EU-funded projects, Sci GaIA and TANDEM, will be represented at the UbuntuNet Connect conference and will also organize a joint workshop in collocation with this event. Details will be announced shortly. Stay tuned!
