6th Sci-GaIA Workshop on “Open Science: Principles, Practice and The Third Way of Scientific Discovery”

REGISTRATION FORM

Open Science encourages scientific practices in which all research outputs and methods are openly shared under terms that enable reuse, redistribution and reproduction. Potential benefits range from increased transparency and quality in research, faster knowledge transfer, better global collaboration and more effective social engagement. There are many initiatives that are advocating Open Science approaches. One of these is the EU-funded Sci-GaIA project (Energising Scientific Endeavour through Science Gateways and e-Infrastructures in Africa - www.sci-gaia.eu). To support Open Science, and to promote Open Science in Africa, Sci-GaIA has created the Open Science Platform.

This 6th Sci-GaIA Workshop will discuss the principles and practices of Open Science, approaches to research publishing and the role of ICT such as Science Gateways and e-Infrastructures. Several real-world examples of Open Science will be presented by several Sci-GaIA Champions. The event will also focus on open science approaches to simulation, the so-called “third way” of scientific discovery, and the critical role it plays in science and industry. There will also be time to discuss and plan future possible collaborations. It will be held on Friday, the 3rd of February 2017 at the Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

The participation to the workshop is free of charge but interested people are invited to register at their earliest convenience to let the local organisers better define the logistics of the event.
